Funes el memorioso II
'Funes el Memorioso', a short story by J.L.Borges, in which he approached matters of philosophic and scientific import with incredible depth, became the inspiration and seed for a series of compositions. The Funes series concerns sound in the context of memory and infinity, as well as addresses the notion of the performer/listener as the independent entity.
We will present the composition 'Funes el Memorioso II' in a large concert format, an attempt to transfer Borges' various observations about memory and its role in perception, into a sound situation.
The composition immerses in the labyrinth of metaphors and literalisms, as
"All the branches, clusters and leaves that form a whole row of vines,"
braid the short story of Ireneo Funes.
Michał Biel (soprano saxophone, tapes) is bringing the situation together with:
Kaja Draksler – piano, objects (Slovenia)
Flavia Huarachi – flute (Bolivia/Denmark)
Szymon Gąsiorek – percussion, objects (Poland)
Sarvin Asa – cello (Italy)
Vincent Yuen Ruiz - double bass (Switzerland)
Aurelijus Užameckis - double bass (Lithuania)
Hein Westgaard – guitar (Norway)
Gianluca Elia – live processing (Italy)
"….the solitary and lucid spectator of a multiform, instantaneous and almost intolerably precise world."
Michał Biel – Polish sound composer and field-recordist.
PS
I invite you to read 'Funes el Memorioso' (English title: 'Funes the Memorious') by J.L.Borges before the event.
Sincerely
