Andvarp
Matthías Sigurðsson presents Andvarp - an immersive performance for 12 clarinets and synth, in collaboration with Copenhagen Clarinet Choir. Andvarp invites the audience to embrace the softest of sonic nuances and the larger collective.
Intertwining compositions with sonic mediations and improvisation, Andvarp (Icelandic for “sigh”) draws inspiration from breath and breathing in its many forms. Andvarp explores breath as a collective mechanism that momentarily synchronises our heartbeats, bringing us together in a world of hyper-individualism and an imminent ecological crisis.
Matthías Sigurðsson was born in Iceland and educated in Amsterdam as a classical clarinet player, live electronics performer and composer. Having travelled through stages of classical, balkan music, pop, hip hop, electronica, experimental film music and theatre Matthías has developed a personal sound coloured by these diverse musical ventures. As a composer and performer, he endeavours to challenge the notions of genre in his hybrid approach to classical and improvised music.
