For his graduate concert, Valdemar Kristensen alias Ekkoflok has prepared a very special performance with the overall theme being the meeting between man and machine.
Two ensembles are exploring the possibilities of orchestrating for homebuilt electronics.
The first ensemble consists of Valdemar Kristensen, Christian Zemp and Lauge Heebøll. Together they will perform a piece for four homebuilt modular synthesizers designed by Ekkoflok. The piece 'Metamorfosis' focuses on the basic building blocks of sound synthesis and transformations between rhythm and harmonies.
The second ensemble performs a piece composed for ten Hexaphons, built by the performers themselves during a workshop in May at RMC. This piece explores the performers as a metaphor for the compiler of our computers, which is usually working hard to translate human-readable code into binary data; the language of transistors. The Hexaphon is a synthesizer designed by Ekkoflok that challenges the conservative world of engineering and seeks to add some witchcraft to the mix - the main ingredient being the exploitation of starving electrons.
