“Ring them bells, Edge” - Spiritual Soundscapes of the Guitar in Early U2, c. 1980-1983

This project is a research article to be written for an anthology on U2 and religion which will be published by Bloomsbury Press in 2017, edited by Scott Calhoun. The title of the article is ’”Ring them bells, Edge”: Spiritual Soundscapes of the Guitar in Early U2, c. 1980-1983’. It deals with notions of the bell-like flageoletto guitar playing by guitarist The Edge and attempts to show how this technique portrays a spiritual, underlining endeavor.
