Project

Musical Improvisation mirrored in Philosophy.

This project was based on the belief that concerts with a free improvisational foundation possesses a unique communicative potential. We combined our expertise as a jazz musician and a researcher in musical immersion to explore the interactive processes both among the musicians and between them and their audience. This was done through heart rate measurements and qualitative interviews during a jazz tour in the Ruhr district.

Based on improvisational music, the project aimed to explore how it could affect the brain, emotions, and cognition, thus working at the intersection of art and science. The project’s goal was to quantitatively and qualitatively examine the shared creative process in improvisational music by posing a range of questions about the improvisational process—both individually and collectively.
