SVØMME
Everyone/anyone is invited to come before the concert to swim with the band and fellow audience members starting at 15:00 on June 23rd. We will meet at the same location as the concert (Eik Skaløes Plads) and take a short walk to a designated swimming location.
SVØMME is a trans-disciplinary project focussed on community in the context of group swimming. When I first moved to Denmark I started making a habit of swimming at least once a week, year round. I found it to be such a communal and relationship building practice that I decided to explore it further and find a way to share it with others. In this project, 9 swimmers/musicians meet every week to face adverse cold waters in winter all the way into the soothing waters of summer. With the group’s collective aquatic experiences as inspiration, we improvise music that immerses the audience in our expression of the meaning of community, facing fears, and revealing our vulnerability to one another.
PJ Fossum is a Copenhagen-based pianist, synthesist and electronics musician. Born and raised in Canada and having cut his teeth in New York, he’s formed himself into a versatile and genre defying artist. From ambient to avant-garde, bebop to baroque, indie to impressionist, he merges these influences in an inventive and expressive manner across both acoustic and electronic instruments creating colourful sound worlds.
