Video: New soundtracks for old slients

Students from RMC brings new sonic life to slient films from the archives of the Danish Film Institute.

What does Asta Nielsen’s gaucho dance sound like in 2023? How do you create a soundscape to accompany a Mars landing in a science fiction film from 1918?

Sounding Silents is a teaching collaboration where students from RMC composes brand new music and sound for old Danish silent films. In addition to RMC and The Danish Film Institute, the Danish National Academy of Music Odense/Esbjerg is also part of the collaboration.

The projects first nine films premiered at Cinemateket’s annual silent film festival earlier this year and can now also be seen – and heard – at Danish Silent Film (stumfilm.dk), a streaming site from the film institute.
