RMC appoints Thurston Moore

Alternative rock icon Thurston Moore has been appointed Honorary Professor at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.

Thurston Moore (born July 25, 1958) is best known as singer, songwriter and guitarist in the influential American noise rock band Sonic Youth. He is also a poet, film composer and founder of the Ecstatic Peace record label and publishing company.

With the honorary title Thurston Moore will periodically conduct workshops and master classes at RMC, giving the conservatory and music community access to his extraordinary skills.

In addition to his huge imprint on alternative rock music with Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore is a regular feature on lists of Greatest Guitarists of All Time with his experimental approach to tuning guitar strings.

"I am proud and extraordinary happy that such a remarkable artistic personality on the international music scene has agreed to accept the appointment as Honorary Professor at RMC. Thurston Moore is an innovator and one of the main contributors to progressive music in the world. Being able to assign him to the educations of RMC is a dream coming true," says Henrik Sveidahl, principal of RMC.

Thurston Moore is the first in a series of new appointments of honorary professors at RMC. The goal is to assign a collegium of music industry personalities at the highest international level which together covers the width of RMC - both within the genres and professions in contemporary rhythmic music. It is RMC's objective to introduce an additional one to two honorary professors already in 2015.

"The collegium of honorary professors at RMC will no doubt provide a noticeable contribution to the conservatory’s vision of being a pacesetter among the world's leading educational institutions in contemporary rhythmic music," says Henrik Sveidahl.
