Project

Hierarchical Composition

This project was about using different theoretical and technical dogmas, when composing electronic music. Especially focused on using John Cages “gamut technique”, where banks of harmonies are created and then combined by chance. In this project, actually the opposite: the Cage chances are measured and used as a rule, while many different harmony banks are constantly changing - created as a program that sends multitimbral midi messages to a variety of different electronic instruments.

Will a selection of compositional rules guide the music in new inspiring directions, finding new untouched ground, or will the dogmas feel more like a unnecessary obstacle in the creative process?

The music is released on the album Urodela (Escho 2019/ESC113)
