Composer, guitarist, musical director and teacher of music.
At RMC, Mark currently teaches the composition class 'Contemporary Chamber Ensemble' as an elective and also contributes as specialization teacher.
Danish-Argentinian guitarist Mark Solborg is educated at The Rhythmic Conservatory of Copenhagen, The Royal Danish Academy and New School University (US) and has, since 2000, been active on the European scene as either leader or co-leader of the groups Solborg 4+4+1, Revolver, moLd, Mark Solborg Trio feat. Herb Robertson & Evan Parker, Herb Robertson/Mark Solborg Duo, ON DOG, Solborg/Banke Duo, the spatial surround project Omdrejninger feat. Axel Dörner, Maniscalco/Bigoni/Solborg a.o.
In recent years Mark has released a comprehensive study on the electric guitar and spatiality within an acoustic contemporary chamber musical context : TUNGEMÅL I-III, BABEL and Confluencia. Feat. Santos Silva, Toldam, Bruun, Greve, Banke, Bigoni, Lovens, Zach a.o.
The versatile improviser and composer cherishes a personal and idiomatic approach to the guitar and has to date produced and released 28 albums, mostly on the Copenhagen based label ILK, of which he was co-founder. He has performed his original music in more than 23 countries with musicians of 15 different nationalities. Music for theatre, performative arts and film – including recent live performances to silent movies and investigations of spatial concepts – is also part of the Solborg realm of music. His work as composer and guitarist has been Grammy-nominated, Reumert-awarded, awarded by the Danish Arts Foundation, and has received significant international recognition. He also has extended experience as a teacher of eartraining, ensemble, composition, improvisation, guitar and entrepreneurship at MGK schools and the conservatories of Denmark.
