Vridsløse Takeover: Go to Jail with the Contemporary Music Talent Pool

The closed State Prison in Vridsløselille is taken over by talented RMC students for two special and entirely free concert evenings featuring site specific musical works.

The past collides with the future as some of today's most promising musicians and music creators turns up the sound from within the 160-year-old iconic prison walls in Albertslund. On June 4th and 5th, students from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC) will take over the former Vridsløselille State Prison with an exciting, current, and eclectically curated concert program specifically created for and inspired by the setting of the unusual building complex.

Vridsløse Takeover is free for the audience and presented by RMC in collaboration with the local venue Forbrændingen and with Porten, the city of Albertslund's new cultural focal point in the historic buildings on the old prison grounds.

The two concert evenings are developed and curated by the students themselves for the spectacular indoor and outdoor areas of the closed prison – including the central panopticon, the prison church, and a black box stage in the inmates' worn-out gymnasium. All concerts, works and installations have emerged in community from co-creative processes.

The detailed program for Vridsløse Takeover will be announced shortly before it kicks off – expect a contemporary musical kaleidoscope with expressions ranging from exploratory sound art to captivating pop.

26 artists in total conclude the first year of their master's degree by exploring the potential and value of uniting musical ideas and visions in artistic partnerships and co-creation.
