As part of Institute of Imaginary Sound's series of lectures on utopia(s), Anna Jakobsson and Zoi Efstathiou from the the Swedish feminist art network Konstmusiksystrar (Sisters in Art Music) will present a talk on the theme 'Feministic Utopia(s)'.
THE EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO EVERYONE
Konstmusiksystrar (Sisters in Art Music) is a Swedish network that works to increase the representation of women and transgender people in the realms of contemporary art music and sonic arts.
Since 2014 Konstmusiksystrar has worked tirelessly to challenge the hierarchies in the field of contemporary music and heighten the visibility of women composers. Their purpose has been to broaden the variety of gender, age, and race, but also to challenge the archaic conception of “high-quality” within the contemporary field. The ideals and standard procedures, both in programming and rehearsal situations, are designed to fit one kind of artist – The (Male) Genius.
Working as a collective of women, Konstmusiksystrar oppose this image through their mere existence, while at the same time introducing new feministic curating practices, by involving the audience in various curating situations.
