Toxværd Blog 5: Prelude to the project presentation

In the afternoon on April 13 at RMC I will be presenting the artistic research (KUV) project that I have been working on half time the last 15 months. Here follows some information about the results and the process of the project:

My project’s title: Composition of graphic and sonic works through the improvisers’ co-creation

A synopsis of the project: Taking my compositions as a point of departure, the project investigates the improvisers’ co-creation in the compositional process. The composer explores how improvisers’ ideas can be integrated in the development of the compositions, and explores what impact the integration has on the works of art. In the project, graphic scores are being designed, through the means of which I am seeking to bring forth new aesthetic forms of expressions.

Artistic results & reflections:

1) Live-recording of the double concert at Jazzhouse, Cph, March 17: “Laura Toxværd Compositions”. Release on ILK Music July 1, 2016, on two vinyl albums

Line-up, first concert: Laura Toxværd - alto sax, vocal; Carsten Dahl – piano; Jonas Westergaard - double bass, vocal; Raymond Strid - drums.

Compositions performed: RAWHIDE, TICKLED, QUARREL, SHYSTER, URNABLE, VOWELLY.

Line-up, second concert: Laura Toxværd - alto sax, clarinet; Jeppe Zeeberg – piano; Nicolai Kaas Claesson – bass; Rune Lohse - drums.

Compositions performed: QUA, SHY, RAW, URN, VOW, TIC.

2) An art book published April 13, 2016, by Forlaget Spring: “Laura Toxværd Compositions – 18 Graphic Scores”. Containing the project’s graphic scores and including critical reflections on the artistic processes.

About Laura Toxværd

Altsaxophonist, composer and teaching assistant professor at RMC.

 

Has released three albums under her own name. Co-founder and former chairwoman of the artist collective and record label ILK. 

 

In 2009 awarded with the Danish Art Council's three-year working grant by the Rythmical and Classical Committees in unison. 

 

Educated from RMC (2004) and holder of a Master's degree with Music Education as area of specialization from Aarhus University (2013).

By the Danish Ministry of Culture's definition, artistic research is an integrated part of any artistic process ammounting to an outcome available to the public, and accompanied by a reflection upon the process itself as well as the presentation of the result.
